Once a giant figure in world politics, Mao Zedong has faded a bit in death. Mao led the Red Army which overthrew Chinese dictator Chiang Kai-Shek in 1949 and founded the communist People's Republic of China. For over 25 years Mao was China's maximum leader and a figure of adoration among the Chinese people. Mao was a prolific Communist theorist; the Little Red Book is a famous collection of his political sayings. After his death, leaders like Deng Xiaoping steered the country away from pure communism and the Cult of Mao began to disappear.
